For those of you following along, it is 2 weeks until departure for New Zealand! 2 1/2 weeks ago I sprained my ankle and I had to modify my training to let my body heal. Those of you “in the know” probably realize that I missed out on the crux of the trail run training- the last two weeks before the taper. But I did something in these last two weeks with results that are surprising even to me. I decided to minimize my ibuprofen intake and really focus on maximizing the variety and amounts of different colored fruits and veggies I ate. I have read the studies and know how important phytonutrients are for healing, so I chose to “walk the walk.” Well, here I am today, a 21 mile run later, with NO ankle swelling. I am healing faster now than I was 15 years ago when I started my long distance events. The right food truly is medicine.
